鳩係一種雀，而且種類都唔少，最常見有班鳩、山鳩等。另外，由於讀音相同，網絡上唔少人會用「鳩」字假借廣東話粗口「㞗」。
分佈 [編輯]
斑鳩屬主要分佈響非洲，少數種住亞洲南部熱帶。至少有兩個種而家甚至擴展到其他地方。
灰斑鳩本來分佈響歐亞大陸嘅溫帶地區，從歐洲東南部一直到日本，近年來自然去到歐洲其它地區。1960年到咗英國，此後入愛爾蘭。之後引美國，傳遍各州，1999年美國 22 個州有灰斑鳩，而且不斷擴散。
珠頸班鳩本來只住響亞洲南部，之後被引入美國、印度尼西亞北部、澳洲、紐西蘭。
