性別靈活 （Gender fluidity ；通常叫 genderfluid）係種冇固定嘅性別認同，會隨住時間或者情況而改變。呢啲變化可以發生喺性別認同本身，或者性別表達上。Genderfluid 嘅人可能喺人生唔同階段之間，轉換唔同嘅性別表達，或者同時展現多種性別特徵 ^[1]^[2]。 Genderfluid 嘅人可能會認同自己係 non-binary、transgender，或者 cisgender（即係認同自己出世時嘅性別）^[3]^[4]。喺 gender fluidity 入面，性別認同嘅轉變，係指一個人對自己性別嘅內在感覺有所改變，而呢種感覺可能同佢出生時定咗嘅性別，或者外表唔一致 ^[5]。

至於性別表達嘅變化，就係指外在形象同呈現方式嘅改變，例如著衫風格、行為、髮型、聲線，或者使用嘅代名詞等等 ^[6]。一個 genderfluid 嘅人，可能會經歷性別認同、性別表達，或者兩者同時出現變化 ^[5]^[6]。性別靈活係 gender nonconformity（性別唔符合傳統規範）嘅一種形式，意思係喺性別認同、性別表達同社會角色方面，挑戰傳統對性別嘅觀念同模式 ^[5]。一篇二〇一九年刊登喺《American Psychologist》嘅同行評審研究指出，genderfluid 身份挑戰咗將性別視為固定、二元結構嘅傳統模型 ^[5]。

性別靈活同 gender-questioning（探索自己性別）唔同。Gender-questioning 係指一個人透過探索自己性別，去尋找真正嘅性別認同，再相應調整自己嘅性別表達 ^[7]。而性別靈活就會持續存在喺 genderfluid 人士嘅人生之中 ^[8]。認同自己係 genderfluid 嘅人，可以選擇使用任何佢哋覺得適合自己嘅代名詞。研究指出，對 genderfluid 後生仔女嚟講，童年同青春期係重要嘅成長階段，因為呢段時間佢哋會，更加意識到社會對性別分類同期望 ^[9]。

由於 genderfluid 後生仔女嘅性別認同同表達並唔固定，佢哋會面對一啲特別挑戰。大人、同輩或者制度，可能會誤解或者質疑佢哋，將呢種狀態視為「未諗清楚自己係咩性別」，而唔係一種真實有效嘅性別認同 ^[9]。呢啲挑戰喺學校、醫療同屋企環境中特別常見，因為好多表格、政策、校服規定、代名詞使用，同人際互動，都假設咗性別只得傳統二元模式 ^[9]^[10]。研究人員認為，喺研究性別認同發展時，應該將 genderfluid 同 nonbinary 後生仔女納入考慮，而唔應該將佢哋睇成「正常性別發展」嘅例外情況 ^[9]^[5]。
