社會學史，歷史一門，專睇社會學演變。社會學，因應啟蒙時期思想而生，可謂哲學分門。法國大革命之後無耐，有實證主義，用佢方法研究社會，亦叫社會科學。當時有科學哲學，有知識論，出現一連串反應，現代性、資本主義、城市化、理性化、世俗化、殖民統治同帝國主義等等，創造出呢門學問。而呢門學問一直咁變，而且發到好廣，有好多唔同流派。

十九世紀未，社會學初期，當時有好多新興現代民族國，學者就好有興趣。佢裏面有制度組成，有社會化單位，有監視途徑。就咁，社會學中意講現代性，多過啟蒙。呢點分就同經典政治哲學分野。查實社會分析，廣義來講，同哲學一個款。原本哲學入便就有。

社會研究有種種定理技巧，化畀日常工具，畀政府、企業、組織用。其他社會科學都有用。佢脫離社會動態理論，自成一派，獨立於社會學。而社會科學，又概括種種學科，研究人類、互動、社會或者文化。

學科來睇，社會學範疇唔定，因應各個社會學家點理解，理解社會學本質，同範疇，同組成部分。直筆甩咁定義，並唔妥當。唔同學術背景，自有佢社會學研究目的，以及心力。
