From an early (mid-century, I believe) version of the National Atlas.

Note: The Florida and the other parts of Louisiana purchase date is incorrect. The land was ceded by Spain in 1819 but formal occupation began in 1821. Alaska and Hawaii are not shown because they were purchased after 1853. See Image:National-atlas-1970-1810-loupurchase.png for area of Louisiana purchase in the southern region, shown by heavy black lines. Image:Us historic territories.png is another more detailed map.

Originally in jpg format but was converted to png because of information can be seen better with png than jpg.
