English: This version was retranscribed from scratch from the gongche notation and arranged as a harmonization exercise and mixed as a mixing exercise (i.e., this is a piece of student work). Each line of the arrangement was rendered by Sfizz then mixed in Audacity. (Samples are from the Versillian Studios Chamber Orchestra (VSCO) community edition, the Versilian Community Sample Library (VCSL) and the AVL “Blonde Bop” drum kit.)

The initial transcription, arrangement and recording took about 9 hours; I have not tallied how much time I’ve spent to arrive at the second version.

Gongche notation only indicates which notes are on beat; any musician has to improvise to figure out where all the other notes go so there’s no such thing as a mechanical translation from gongche (unless all notes are on beat), especially for a score like this with so many consecutive off-beat notes.

Several (incompatible) versions of the gongche notation exist, but the version used in the original score appears to be almost the same as the Cantonese system except 亿 (instead of 𢒼) is used for b' (in Lilypond absolute notation) and 四 (instead of 士) for a. Other readings would produce an implausible melody line.
