呢座山簡稱做他羽馬他嘅目的只係方便溝通。由紐西蘭土地信息部維護嘅紐西蘭地理地名數據庫紀錄嘅地名拼寫方法係「Taumata­whakatangihanga­koauau­o­tamatea­pokai­whenua­ki­tana­tahu」(57個字母)[1]。呢座山因為呢個長名而好出名。紐西蘭先驅報指出,他羽馬他係世界上第二長嘅地名,僅次於曼谷(全長有137個字母)。[2]

肯尼·埃弗里特改咗他羽馬他山個名,將佢當係電視節目》嘅引言,由一個卡通化嘅毛利人講出嚟。紐西蘭音樂家彼得·開普曾經唙佢尐歌入面用85個字母版本嘅名作為歌詞一部分。[5]

捷克樂隊馬可!馬可(Mako!Mako)曾經以他羽馬他山嘅全名作為全首歌嘅歌詞;1976年,英國樂隊量子躍遷(Quantum Jump)嘅單曲《獨行俠》曾經將他羽馬他山嘅全名作為部份嘅歌詞。[6]
