據講呢隻歌嘅曲調係作曲人Linda Stassen-Benjamin沖涼嗰陣諗到嘅。喺佢諗咗曲調之後，佢就喺科斯塔梅薩各各他教堂（英文：Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa）個工作坊度嗰陣搞掂成隻歌，並同作曲小組一齊創作和音曲調。

《Sing Hallelujah to the Lord》係小調，喺頌讚歌入面係比較少有。同時，呢隻歌係復活節嘅聖詩，歌詞嘅四節嚟自早期基督教禮拜儀式入面聖經嘅簡單重複句[2][3]。

2019年，香港發生反逃犯條例修訂運動遊行，喺運動早期，隻歌嘅英文版亦喺唔同場合同氣氛度喺金鐘政府總部附近出現幾次[4][5]。

6月9號立法會衝突後嘅6月11號，幾百個基督徒喺政府總部外通宵唱呢隻歌[6]，希望喚醒警察嘅良知，化解清場嘅戾氣[7]，亦代表天父畀人類平等自由[8]。之後幾日亦有唔少示威者奏唱呢隻歌[9]，包括6月14號同6月16號大遊行期間[10][11]，遊行後示威者亦搞咗聖詩馬拉松，喺立法會示威區通宵唱呢隻歌[12]。另外，按香港公安條例，宗教集會唔會當作集會、遊行管轄嘅一部份，所以爲示威畀咗額外嘅法律保護[13]。
