呢個領域好耐歷史-喺古希臘嗰陣時經已有好似係阿里士多德(Aristotle)等嘅哲學家喺度研究佢(雖然佢哋啲理論後尾畀人否決咗)[3]。喺 15 世紀嗰陣嘅歐洲,因為伽利略(Galileo)同埋牛頓(Newton)等嘅科學家力學有咗重大嘅飛躍-佢哋奠定咗古典力學(又叫「牛頓力學」)作為力學嘅基礎,呢套理論框架淨係用咗位移同埋速度等幾個簡單嘅概念就分析到嗮好多嘅力學現象。而去到廿世紀初,愛因斯坦(Einstein)等嘅好幾個大物理學家諗咗包括相對論同埋量子力學嘅理論出嚟-呢柞新理論框架又解釋到古典力學解唔掂嘅原子尺寸嘅嘢同埋以光速郁嘅嘢嘅相關現象,令到人類對於物體嘅郁動嘅了解又進咗大步。
